WHAT IS BOTOX COSMETIC®?
Botox Cosmetic is a safe and effective way to treat early creases in younger skin, deeper lines, or to prevent wrinkles as they start. It has been proven that facial lines around the eyes, brow, and forehead may not be the result of aging skin, but due to muscle contractions which force the skin into wrinkles.
Botox doesn’t just fill in the wrinkle, it treats the muscle that causes the wrinkle. It is ideal for younger patients, both male and female, whose skin is just starting to age, as well as older patients who notice forehead creases, frown lines, and crow’s feet. Collagen, a skin filler, is an effective means of treating wrinkles, but only after wrinkles occur. Botox treats existing creases as well as potential creases before they start.
Botox improves the appearance of the frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar creases), the wrinkles at the outside edges of the eyes (crow’s feet), and horizontal forehead creases (worry lines). Frown lines, which are deep creases between the eyebrows, can give people a worried or angry look. Many people frown when they concentrate, in which case their frown lines signal the wrong emotion. Crow’s feet at the sides of the eyes cause a “squinting” look. Horizontal forehead creases give people an aged look.
HOW DOES BOTOX WORK?
Botox treats the underlying cause of wrinkles by weakening the individual muscles that cause unwanted lines to form. The muscles relax, the skin flattens out, and creases are improved or prevented entirely. Thus, Botox can prevent the occurrence of wrinkles before they start, as well as treat deeper preexisting creases.
HOW IS IT DONE & DOES IT HURT?
When injected into the affected muscle, Botox causes the muscle to relax, so wrinkles and lines can diminish or disappear. There is very little pain associated with the injection, and the area may be taken care of with ice if you wish. Dr. Scott Blumer has received specialized training in Botox injections from the manufacturer and will personally perform your Botox treatment here at Amadeus Spa.
WHAT TO EXPECT FOLLOWING TREATMENT
When the toxin starts to wear off, wrinkles gradually return. At that time, re-injection is recommended. Injections two to three times per year are necessary to maintain effect.
Is Botox Safe?
Botox is a remarkably safe product. It has been used for years to treat muscle spasms around the eye. Its’ soothing effect on wrinkles was noted as a side benefit during these medical treatments, and lead to its use in cosmetic treatments.
How Long Does It Take?
The procedure takes 5 to 10 minutes, and you can return to work or daily activities immediately. Results of Botox injections are noticeable in a few days, and last for many months.
